Connecting With the Future You

Is she wildly successful and loving her life? Or is she still stuck?

Here is a success hack that you may not have heard about — but it is one that all successful men and women have used.

It’s very simple. Think about the “future you” more often.

When you are able to envision that person, what they are doing and the life they are living, that life now becomes part of your possibility, and the universe can start putting all the pieces in place to make it happen.

So what does the future YOU look like? Because if you want to influence the creation of your day and the creation of your future successful self, you have to know what that life looks like.

Stephen Covey said, “Begin with the end in mind.”

If you are like most people, you may have struggled with knowing what you really want for yourself. You may still find it difficult to acknowledge your real desires for your future because you have limiting beliefs around whether these dreams could ever happen.

What if your story could be anything you decide to write about yourself?

What if you tell your story based on your future, a blank slate, instead of telling it as an interpretation of your past? What if you decide to change the title and the contents of your future life story?

It might feel like you don’t really have a choice in the matter. You might feel like you are bound by the mistakes or efforts or circumstances of your past. But that is not true.

When you start to live in the possibility of what you can do differently today, you change your thoughts, you change the decisions you make, and you ultimately change your life.

Take time today to write down what you want your life to look like in one year. Describe in detail what you see around you including your home and the people around you. What are you doing? What kinds of experiences are you enjoying? How much money is in your bank account?

Close your eyes and step into that life and feel as if you are already there.

As you look back in time to the life you have now, what things did you do to get to this new future life? Were you more committed to your dreams? Did you take care of yourself more? Is there anything that you had to let go of?

The more often you embody this future version of yourself, the easier it will be to make the decisions that will get you to the life that you truly dream of living.
